Sonoma is the birthplace of modern winemaking.
The first grape vines were planted here in 1812 by Russian immigrants.
Twelve years later, the Spanish Franciscan Fathers planted
vines at their northernmost mission in what was to become
the town of Sonoma.
Today, Sonoma has surpassed Napa
and has grown to number one in grape sales, yet still
has significant potential for more growth by planting
in unexplored territory. With the purchase
of Lake Sonoma Winery in May 1996, champagne producer,
Gary Heck, found a hidden treasure in the Dry Creek
Valley. Taking its name from the nearby lake, the winery
was originally founded by Bob and Mary Lou Polson in 1977 located on a hill, overlooking
